The Land at Harbour Heights

The Land at Harbour Heights, Newhaven is a peaceful oasis of calm with beautiful views across the Downs. The site is looked after by Lisa, who wanted to create a nature reserve for the community, in memory of her much loved uncle, an environmentalist.

Over the past 2 years a huge amount of work has gone into clearing the scrub to allow space for wildflowers, while keeping the existing trees and planting new ones. (These include Rowan, Oak, Hornbeam, Dogwood, Hazel, Maple, Dog Rose, St John’s Wort and Gorse).

The plot measures 8 metres by 76 metres and stretches up a gradual incline, past curious nooks and crannies, to a welcoming seating area where beautiful views over the South Downs can be enjoyed. There’s even a compost toilet!

Lisa’s vision is to create a shared space for nature and the community, for people to enjoy the tranquillity and use the site to learn new skills, or hold workshops, courses or events.

If you’d like to find out more, volunteer at the site or use the site for an event, Lisa would love to hear from you!
